The West P8170 is a self-tuning vmd controller with programmable input selection, allowing selection of thermocouple, pt100 or linear input signals. The controller is normally supplied with option 1 & 2 relays for open & close signals, but Triac, SSR drive and analogue outputs can also be provided.
The P8170 uses an advanced tuning algorithm, with selectable pre-tune and self-tuning for easier set-up. Pre-tune when enabled, allows the controller to calculate an initial set of control parameters on the way to the setpoint, (first time you use the controller) before automatically switching to self-tune when it nears the septpoint. This negates the need for you to calculate the optimum control settings, the controller does it for you. You can leave the controller in self-tune mode to continually adapt to your process, or our recommendation is to disable after the self-tune procedure has optimised your process to a stable value and the controller will use the optimised control parameters on power up from the on.
The P8170 has a modular design (plug and play) which allows for additional features, such as alarm relays, retransmission signal, remote setpoint control, transmitter power supply, and digital communications to be specified at time of order, or added later.
